(Author’s note: I wrote this back on june 7th or so, but I wasn’t sure if it was funny enough to put out there. Listening and reading it now, it’s kinda funny, so why not?)

Waiting for a fax from my optomitrist today, I saw a funny fax come through, predicting a nuclear attack on the UN on June 9th or 10th.

To me, this is laugh out loud funny, but I imagine that some people must be suckered in by fatalistic handwaving like this. “Ooooh, (read in a spooooooky voice) we cracked the biblical code! It’s a message from the future!”

Here’s a hint, when you’re predicting the future, give yourself more than 8 days to be proven wrong.

Bible Scholars Predict an 86% Probability of a Nuclear Terrorist Attack on the UN Complex in Manhattan on June 9th or 10th

Before we get into the scriptural reasoning lets look at this physically. Mayor Bloomberg has said that terror schemes have mentioned the UN amongst other targets. NYC has been the main terrorist target in the past in the US. Nuclear terrorism has been debated in the media as a possibility in the longer term future, but next weekend?

Well, that is where the bible research comes in. The date is deduced from the symbolic code of Jesus’ parables and Daniel’s visions and Joseph’s dream interpretations.

Unless my musical theater history is getting fuzzy, Joseph’s dreams were about his brothers and ruling Egypt. I’d love to see this “bible research”. I imagine it’s something like this:

Listen to this conversation (in the tone of “Dib and Zim”) “Researcher” One: J=10 + E=5 + S=19 - U=21 + S=19 = 9! They’re going to bomb the UN on the 9th.

Researcher Two:Oh my god! … Wait, I get how you got to the number 9, but where’d the bombing part come in?

“Researcher” One: It’s all right here in the numbers? It’s the biblical CODE!

Researcher Two:Wait a second (counts on fingers). That doesn’t even add up to 9.

“Researcher” One: This is the God code! It’s the code from Jesus!

Researcher Two: Even if you were to add all the letters from the word Jesus, it comes out to 74, which still doesn’t tell you…

“Researcher” One: That’s not a date! You speak crazyness! Don’t infect me with your crazy!

CLANG. whump.

“Researcher” One: They bomb the UN on the 9th!

Hillarious.

The rest of the fearmongering BS is beneath the cut, and it’s certainly good for a laugh.

Felt Up is almost ready!

April 13th, 2006

Felt Up, our collaborative puppet sketch comedy video podcast, is getting very close! The footage is with our editor, and I’ve just put up a short teaser trailer on the blog.

Check it out if you haven’t already!

Wannabe.

On Set at Felt Up TV shoot 1SXSW has come and gone, but I’m still catching up on the sessions I missed by listening to the podcasts. Just the fact that you can listen to many of the keynote talks on your own time on your own device is pretty amazing and there’s lots of good stuff to hear, but many of the conversations that I’m really interested in happened outside the traditional keynote sessions, and don’t appear to have been caught on tape. Perhaps more will show up as part of IT Conversations, caught by attendees.

In the meantime, things are rocketing along here, Flu and Bronchitis be damned! Sara and I spent yesterday with some of the other wonderful “Felt Up” crew and churned out at least 3 great bits, which means that with the pilot, we’re good for an April 1st launch! I’ve been hesitant to talk too much about Felt Up here on the blog for fear of over-hyping it before it became a reality, but at this point we’re 95% of the way there and it’s looking amazing!

For those that don’t know, Felt Up is a short-format internet comedy series for portable video devices featuring puppets.

That’s a mouthful, so I’ll explain. We know a lot of great comedians here in NY, and our network of friends includes filmmakers, writers, and other amazing creative types. Getting everyone together (especially the hyper-busy comedians,) is really tough, but getting them to lay 5-10 minutes of audio down (whether reading a part for a sketch or improvising) is pretty doable. Once we’ve got funny audio by notable comedians we can act it out with puppets, taking our time with multiple takes, lots of angles, etc… While we’re at it, we get to play around and improv our own sketches as well!

You can see some production photos over at the Flickr tag FeltUpTV and keep your eyes on FeltUpTV.com, we’ll be launching soon!

“Oh I dreamed… I was Richard Pryor”

“Running on fire down the sunset strip.”

“And as the flames burned brighter”

“My head grew lighter”

“And I watched the flesh fall from my fingertips…”

“Ashes to ashes, and trust to dust”

“I don’t know what it means”

“to be burned by something that you love so much”

“I think I must be living the dream”

Chris Mills - “Chris Mills is Living the Dream” (listen here)

We featured this song on the last edition of the GlitchCast, which was initially available yesterday, December 10th. While eating breakfast this morning I learned that Richard Pryor passed away yesterday morning, and got a little chill down my spine. I’m not a superstitious person, but it’s an unlikely coincidence.

UK Times Online has an excellent, if brutally honest, look at his life until last year.

Our good friend Marianne has produced a great show tonight at UCB Theater. It would be great to see any friends in the NYC area!
