Inspired by Anil’s post, I’ve gone ahead and added to the lolcats phenomenon.

Wisdom from the bathroom wall: Instructions for surviving a zombie crisis

Zombies!

  1. Know who’s a stand up dude in the event of a zombie crisis.
  2. Aim for the brain pan.
  3. Always save a bullet for yourself.

Rules to live by.

(PS - if you haven’t seen Shaun of the Dead yet, rent it now. Sara and I were skeptical, but it turned out to be one of the funniest movies I saw last year.

This image never gets old

December 21st, 2006

Back in February, Ryan and I were playing a whole lot of pool while I visited my parents house upstate. After a particularly long session, he noticed that his shoes were squeaking, and proceeded to do what can only be called the “Super Squeaky Shoe Shuffle”. Photographic evidence is below:

Squeak!

It makes me laugh every time.

“Well…”

I thought to myself as I walked past,

“If you buy it from this place, yes, it probably is.”

It’s not every day you see one of your old, obscure high-school nicknames show up on the web, and certainly not used as an adjective!

Cory Doctorow used “Skiffy” today, and I had to go look it up:

Dibbell is a sharp writer and a sharp thinker, and the book is dense with ideas so skiffy and weird that it probably contains the germ of thirty science fiction novels (my story Anda’s Game, about virtual Mexican sweatshops, was inspired by his original reportage of this phenomenon)

I was pretty clueless as to how Cory intended “skiffy” to be taken, so I turned to google.

According to wikipedia, it turns out that “Skiffy” is an ironic geek-joke, referring to the mispronounciation of the term sci-fi.

The word originated as a mispronunciation of the term “sci fi,” which had been coined by Forrest (”Forry”) J Ackerman in 1954. Mr. Ackerman was a film review writer who became the editor of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine, which celebrated the schlock (some would say “campy”) monster/sf movies which were frowned upon by many hardcore science fiction fans as being too poor in quality to be taken seriously and definitely not to be confused with “real” science fiction.

Eventually, skiffy became synonymous with any poorly made, low-budget science fiction film or schlocky science fiction work with a high camp humor value. For example, under such usage, Plan 9 from Outer Space is definitely considered skiffy.

Very interesting… It seems I was pre-destined to be a geek!

Giant Leopard Spotted Slug!

Well, technically it’s a Limax Maximus but whatever it is, Sara and I were NOT expecting this to show up right next to her head on the wall as we finished up dinner tonight. WHOA!

I thought these slugs were primarily found in Southern Californa. What’s he doing around here? Maybe he just flew in from LAX to LGA?

Funny GMail adwords

This ad came up beside 2 of my emails in gmail today. Gmail usually matches the ads to the content of your email, so these ads were a bit suprising.

Contrary to what you might expect, the emails held nothing nefarious - just links to songs from an artist we’re considering for The Alternative Music Show, Rebecca Nurse.

Suddenly I’m wondering what those Rebecca Nurse kids are up to!

As an aisde, I just had to see what “witch spells” page paid for a top-ranked google ad. Why, a page full of more ads, of course! This time for things like this:

Let us cast an extreme love, money or revenge spell for 24.95. 110% money-back guarantee. Our spells work.

UPDATE: Okay, a quick google for the name Rebecca Nurse pulls up this page detailing “The trial of Rebecca Nurse” - one of the “witches” burned in salem. Now it all makes sense.

Owwww! Sa-ra!

I love how happy Sara looks in these pictures plucking Jenn’s eyebrows. She’s genuinely enjoying it, and Jenn appears to be in agony. They were laughing between pictures, but I got some extremely funny moments.

Also, my wife is hot. That is all.

I just found this nifty flickr tool called bubblr that allows you to link pictures together and add caption bubbles. Very fun.
