A new camera, of course!

I’ll admit it. I’m spoiled rotten. I’ve only had my new camera for 2 days, and I’m completely ruined on other cameras! I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back.

My new toy is the Canon S3 IS, recommend by Jon, affirmed by the beautiful shots taken with it on flickr, and gifted by my lovely wife Sara.

With 12x optical zoom, I can get in close to the action. With a high ISO and image stabilization, I can keep the flash off even in dimly lit situations, allowing me to capture the natural lighting and mood without interrupting the action.

If you’ve been following my flickr feed, you already know I’m a sucker for macro shots, and that’s what finally put me over the top on this camera. You can bring the focus all the way down to the lens, effectively capturing anything you can get in front of the camera in 6 megapixels of extreme closeup. You can bet I’m going to be playing with that a lot!

Last night, I went on an “apartment photo hunt,” looking for anything beautiful in the normal everyday stuff we’ve got lying around. Some of the results are below… Have I mentioned I love this camera? Thank you Sara!!!! <3

Sometimes, the most beautiful things are right at your doorstep.

This amazing giant sunflower is growing in the garden across from the door to our apartment building. It’s at least 10 feet tall and when you look up at it from the street it’s so tall that all you can see is sky behind it and you get this incredible mix of blues, yellows and greens.
