Some views from the launchpad of Clipmarks 2.0
February 27th, 2007
As launches go, this has been amazing. We got our prerequisite speedbump out of the way early, and since then, things are going really really really really update: REALLY well.
As if things couldn’t get any better, Sara sent us this amazing cheese platter!
It’s been quite a while since I slept, so I’m just about out of coherent words or sentences, but I’ll leave you with some macro zoomed glimpses of life the Clipmarks HQ.
What’s the one gift you can always get a photo-happy geek?

A new camera, of course!
I’ll admit it. I’m spoiled rotten. I’ve only had my new camera for 2 days, and I’m completely ruined on other cameras! I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back.
My new toy is the Canon S3 IS, recommend by Jon, affirmed by the beautiful shots taken with it on flickr, and gifted by my lovely wife Sara.
With 12x optical zoom, I can get in close to the action. With a high ISO and image stabilization, I can keep the flash off even in dimly lit situations, allowing me to capture the natural lighting and mood without interrupting the action.
If you’ve been following my flickr feed, you already know I’m a sucker for macro shots, and that’s what finally put me over the top on this camera. You can bring the focus all the way down to the lens, effectively capturing anything you can get in front of the camera in 6 megapixels of extreme closeup. You can bet I’m going to be playing with that a lot!
Last night, I went on an “apartment photo hunt,” looking for anything beautiful in the normal everyday stuff we’ve got lying around. Some of the results are below… Have I mentioned I love this camera? Thank you Sara!!!! <3
74 free desktop wallpapers

A few days back, I got some nice encouragement from my mom. Moms are perennial cheerleaders by their very nature, but this particular compliment on my photos got me thinking that I should collect my best desktop oriented shots and make them easily available to download. They’re already freely available through flickr under the creative commons attribution-shareAlike license, but I wanted to assemble my personal favorites.
Download the wallpapers as a self-extracting zip file.
Just run the file in the directory where you want the photos. The package is also available as a straight zip file
I highly recommend “John’s Background Switcher” which allows you to select specific photos to rotate on your background and even lets you specify a flickr user, tag, or set.
Here’s a preview of what the photo package contains:
